Project Details
Idudumo Irrigation Project — Canals & Dams Construction
The Idudumo Irrigation Project, implemented by the National Irrigation Commission (NIC), enhances reliable water supply and farm productivity through the construction of new canals and dams together with the improvement of existing conveyance. The scope includes canal excavation and lining preparation, dam embankments and appurtenant structures, irrigation control structures (turnouts, checks, culverts), access roads and drainage, and establishment of site offices and workers’ camps. Current phase: mobilization and early earthworks.
Project Execution
Mobilization and setting out have begun along canal routes and dam footprints. Excavation works are underway with controlled stockpiling and haul management to protect topsoil. Existing channels are being de-silted and re-profiled to restore design sections, improve conveyance, and prepare for lining. Dam embankment preparation and foundation treatment are scheduled in step with earthworks progress.
Quality control includes compaction testing, concrete trials, and verification of levels and flows at control structures. Health, Safety & Environment measures cover PPE compliance, traffic control on haul routes, and dust suppression, with ongoing engagement of local stakeholders and communities.
Key Achievements
Survey & Setting Out
Benchmarks established; centerlines pegged for canals and dam works; primary excavation areas defined.
Earthworks & Canal Formation
Initial excavation to design depth and side slopes, with safe working platforms and erosion control measures in place.
Channel Rehabilitation
Priority sections de-silted and re-profiled; lining preparation underway to restore reliable flow capacity.
